Practice Statement on the Use of AI

I do not use AI transcriptions or AI clinical documentation tools in my practice.

Why?
I believe that psychotherapy is a sacred practice. It is built upon confidentiality and trust put into the therapeutic relationship. I believe when AI is invited into the room to transcribe every word spoken, we are violating the sacredness of the event and eroding the trust that people have in what they are speaking being private between two people.
I don't believe there is a middle ground here.
Therapists that are using AI to record conversations are damaging both the field, the therapeutic relationship, and their own skills when they outsource their own thinking to AI.
If you are engaged in therapy with me, I will do my best to uphold privacy and that means no use of AI in the session or to create documentation that involves sharing personal information with tech companies.
